Ingredient of the Month: Apple Cider Vinegar
We've spent this whole year telling you all about our fantastic 10 core ingredients (and we're not done), but none of the magic of Fire Cider would be possible without our Big Poppa, our cornerstone, and the main ingredient: Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV).
Used topically for everything from treating athletes foot to dandruff control, ACV has been used medicinally for the inside and outside of the body for thousands of years. But how does the humble apple become this amazing elixir?
First, raw apple juice and yeast spend time together with the yeast converting the sugars in the juice into alcohol. Second, Acetobacter is added to the mix to convert the alcohol to acetic acid. Raw and unfiltered ACV still has living yeast and bacteria colonies floating around, and we call this "the mother".
ACV is powerful all on its own but it's also a wonderful medium for additional ingredients. Without the juggernaut of ACV we can't imagine another way to bring together all of our amazing superfoods for one powerful daily sip.
